Use WS_FTP
to upload files to a Website?

Step 2 - Install and Set up WS_FTP

(Step 1) Double-click the file WSFTP_HomeT128_Install.exe to install the program on your computer. Just follow the prompts to install the program. (It's easier to just let the program install itself in the directories and folders it nominates.)

(Step 2) WARNING: If you have Norton Anti-Virus and Internet Security installed, you may get a message telling you that WS_FTP is trying to access the Internet, and wanting to know if it should be blocked. If you get this message, make sure you click on "Always allow this on all ports". (If you accidentally click 'Block', don't worry. We'll show you how to fix that up later.)

(3) Agree to re-start your computer when prompted.

(4) On your computer screen (the "desktop") you will see the WS_FTP Home icon.

Double-click this to start the program.

(Step 5) You will see a message come up about your evaluation copy of WS_FTP. (See below.) Unless you want to buy it right away, just click 'Continue Evaluation'. (You will have to buy it after the evaluation period is up, if you want to keep using this program. You will probably find it so useful that you want to own it!)

(Step 6) You will now see a CONNECTION WIZARD appear. You can view the "Getting Started Tour" if you wish, at this stage, or you can click "Next" and keep going.

(Step 7) You will be asked to enter a SITE NAME. This is just for your reference. You can call it "Jane's Site" or "Family Site" or "Author Site" or whatever you like.

(Step 8) Now you will be asked to fill in the FTP address. Think of this as the same as the address on a letter - without an address, the contents won't reach the recipient. Ditto for your website: if you don't give this program an address to send your site files to... they won't get there! (Your web host probably sent you an email with this information in it when you signed up for your web site hosting. Look for this before you continue.) Then fill in the FTP address as follows:
