How The Heck Do I... Step 1Create a new page Go into BleepSoft and into File Manager. You will see the index page that you created in the last lesson. Now it's time to create a second web page. You will follow this process to create as many web pages as you want, and link to them from the home page or from other pages. Create a new page the same way as you did for your HOME PAGE.
This time, we'll use a different template. (You could use the same one as your home page if you wish. However, you don't really need 3 columns on every page.) We'll choose a nice-looking basic page, "blue_left_classic". Make sure you save it under a different name, though. We'll save it as "mybook.html" although you can call if whatever relates to the content. NOTE: Make sure that your page name has no spaces between the words. If you want to show spaces, use an underscore - e.g. my_book.html. Click "OK". Step 2 Edit your new page Now it's time to edit your new page...
Highlight the words "Welcome to our Site" and replace them with whatever you want to be the title of your page. I'm going to use: "Write Advice", the name of the product. I'm going to leave the colour as it is, but you can change the colour of the title to whatever you like.
Now, what you want to do from your second page is link back to your home page - your 'index' page. This makes it easy for people to navigate around your site. So you do this: 1. Locate your 'index page' line, and in that line click on the link that says 'get link location'. 2. This will pop the link location up in the "URL" box at the top of the page for you. This time, you probably won't want to fill anything in the 'target window' box. Leave this blank. You don't need a separate window to pop up, because after they read this page, people will just click on this link to go back to your home page. 3. When you see the link information to your index page pop up in the URL box, just click on the 'insert link' button. EDITING AND LAYING OUT THE CONTENT I've chosen YELLOW for the link to stand out. (Highlight and change colour of word 'home'.) I've also written a new subtitle to suit the e-book I'm advertising: "Tips and Techniques to Polish Your Writing And Build Your Career". Finally, I've deleted all the unused links at the top - I can always add them later.
For this page, I'm going to use a table to lay out the text and the picture of the box cover I'm going to upload. (I recommend you do a sample layout on a piece of paper before you start working on your website. Then you'll know what works. You could actually try laying it out in Word, using their tables, because it's very similar. Then just do much the same thing on your website.)
In the first column, I paste in some information about the product. This will push along the second column (or cell) so it looks really narrow - but that's OK; it will expand again later.
Make sure you click inside the cell, then go up and click on the picture icon. This will take you to your Image Manager. You can either upload a new
picture here (using the process described in the last lesson) or use an
image that is already here.
I've already uploaded the image I want to use, so I click on the word 'insert' next to it. Right away, it will appear in the second column that I clicked in just a short time before - like this:
Now it's time to copy and paste the text into the second (one-cell) table that I created below the first one (the one that contains the box cover). We're almost there! When you have your text in the box, choose 'save and exit' (next to the little disk in the toolbar) as you learned yesterday. Now you can view your page to make sure it looks right. (Remember how to do that? Go into File Manager, find the page you just created -'mybook.html' - and choose 'view' along to the right on the same row.) If it's not quite what you expected, you can go back in to 'edit' and work on it some more. This is what the finished page looks like:
OK - now it's your turn! Go and create your Page 2, with a link back to the main site. (And see if you can put a link on your index page that takes the viewer to page 2 - this lesson shows you how to do that.) End of Lesson 3. Create a Second Web Page? |

In this lesson you
will create a second web page and link to it from your home page. |
